Shiney, Pearly Seashells
He was just a little boy all tanned from the sun
Playing at the seashore having so much fun
He had found a sea shell all pearly, pink, and white
When he saw the little girl, such a pretty sight
She was playing with her pail digging in the sand
He walked up to the girl, and placed it in her hand
He smiled at her so shyly, and she kissed him on the cheek
And they played together on that beach for a week
Soon the time went by the little boy took her as a wife
They stood before the alter and said there vows for life
The young man placed that pearly shell into her hand
That he had found so long ago playing in the sand
In there home they found a place to put that pearly shell
Both could always see it, know there love would not fail
Soon there was a tiny bundle all pink, white and pearly
Made their life so complete as God had blessed them surely
Now the years have gone by too soon, the day has come
When the glow had left her cheeks and he was bent with pain
She knew that he would have to leave, but oh' she loved him so
She prayed to God to spare him, but she knew he had to go
She knelt beside him one last time and held him oh so near
And prayed dear God let him walk on sandy beaches there
She kissed him on his sunken cheek and placed it in his hand
That shiney pearly seashell he had found in the sand

My Little Brown Jug
Actuality I live all alone.
Back in the hills in a mobile home.
Me and my jug and dog name blue.
He guards my still from the revenue.
Back in the holler hidden from sight.
I go out to fill my jug in the moonlight.
Under a bush I lay down a jug or two.
For the revenuers they know what to do.
Turn their head and look the other away.
Some time ago I took that jug to chat one day.
It has been around the internet several times.
Everyone knows that jug is full of moonshine.
No one has been known to ever decline.
Made in the Ozarks with the finest corn.
That recipe from old grandpa was born.
For generations it has been right here in these hills.
So come visit the little brown jug for some thrills.
Tip that jug up over your shoulder take a swig.
Come on, in kick up your hills, and dance a jig.
Sit a spell, have sip, let's all do it and cut a rug.
Where everybody knows your name at the Little Brown Jug.

Ain't That Livin'?
Waking in the morning looking at the day
Open my window smell the new mown hay
Heading for the kitchen bacon frying in the pan
The aroma of food and the whirr of the fan
Sitting down to eat and a prayer of thanksgiving
What a way to start a day now that is really living
Sitting on the porch watch the dust of passing cars
Snapping green beans for mom to put in jelly jars
I can hear the flies as they go buzzing around
A sitting here thinking about the summer sound
Oh how I enjoy sitting here no misgivings
No doubt in my mind life is worth living
After dinner in the yard kids chasing lighting bugs
Grandma in her rocker giving baby Sue some hugs
Grandpa whittling whistles for all the kids to blow
Aunt Bess and Uncle Ben getting ready to go
Come and get your kisses everyone is giving
Summer evening all the family Ain't that living

Grow Up
It makes me sad to see friends fight.
I wish that I could make things right.
Why do we all think others to blame.
When all your excuses seem quiet lame.
It matters not what country you're from.
Fussing and fighting is still quiet dumb.
To hear adults say he/she started it
makes me think of my children a bit.
When they were young and full vim
Times to be good were mighty slim
And to see it now in senior adults
You wonder why all these insults
I might excuse it if you were a child of ten
But good lord you will never be that again
So get out a mirror and look real good
Can't you start acting the way you should?
A long way from being a kid or young pup
Come on people its time to GROW UP

From My Window
I see beauty out my window as I look around
I See beauty in the flowers growing from the ground
I see bushes of lilac and a tinkle of bells in the breeze
I see Iris of blue I see birds flying in the trees
High in the trees they fly, chirping hear them sing
Far off in the distant I hear church bells ring
Humming birds a flitter at the feeders at my window
A ruby red throat drinks, and out across a meadow
At the edge of the woods I see a doe and her two fawns
Looking out across the pond I see two beautiful swans
White clouds over head blue back ground are a frame
Each spring is different yet some things are still the same
The lovely blooming flowers and a sun set all aflame
The thunder of a storm and the fresh smell of rain
Oh now I see that old black cat laying in the weeds
Three little kittens crawl about tending to their needs
Beauty all around us so much is there if you just look
Further in the woods there, runs a bubbling brook
Where the scurrying little animals run to have a drink
I've seen possum and coon and once a saw a coyote slink
Some people pay millions to travel around this world
To see this beauty that I see from my window unfurled

Creeping Shadows at Sunset
Evening comes a creeping out across the field.
The scenery is fading shadows are revealed.
Sounds are echoing out across the land.
Sun is going down night shadows expand.
Up in the trees birds twitter in the last light.
Shadows creeping in soon it will be night.
Here and there a light chasing the shadow away.
Every one settling in at the end of the day.
Sitting on my porch I see a twinkling star.
Watching the stars as they appear from far.
Creeping shadows are upon me time to go inside.
Find my lonely bed and from the shadows hide.
Shadows in the corner shadows sit by my bed.
Hiding from the shadows, pull the cover over my head.
Dream my dreams of love that has come and gone.
Hiding from the shadows until chased by the dawn.

Footprints in the Sand
Walking on the beach in the light of day
Little footprints in the sand he had came this way
Walk a little farther a pile of shells I see
Little children play here running by the sea
I see little clues like the ones that I remember
When we played all summer up until September
I can see footprints as they came this way
I can see the imprints as on the sand lay
Digging in the sand browned by the sun
Playing in the sand and in the water run
Once it was my footprints left in the sand
Yes once it was me that left prints on this land
Today it is my son, I have tried to teach
All the little pleasures of playing on the beach
Of watching the tide as it comes rolling in
Washing the coral out along the bend
Watching the little crabs scurry all around
Digging for clams in the sandy ground
Things that I remember when that lad was me
And I recall watching ships out on the sea
Imaging a pirate's flag waving in the wind
Skull and cross bones flying gold to defend
Evening's spent waiting for the sun and sea to meet
Watching as it sinks like a ball of fire was a treat
As I see my son's footprints in the sand
I remember mine, and thank god for this land
Memories of footprints in the sand will remain
When he sees the footprints in the sand again

Beauty Is
A thing of beauty is a sight to behold
A thing of beauty it's a treasure I'm told
Beauty is a pansy an orchard, a tulip, a rose
A beautiful painting a true love that grows
God gave us the knowledge, and sight to see
The Wonderful miracles he gave you and me
Beauty surrounds us where ever we look
In some ones eyes or it can be in a book
Or up above the lovely bird on high
Or looking at rainbows up in the sky
The beauty is there in a little child's face
In a lovely brides dress with all her lace
The Beauty is ours just one of God's pleasures
It flows all around us like golden treasures
So look at it, Savor it, don't let a day pass by
Don't you see the beauty there for your eye

The Cyber-Gal
Cyber guy once was new.
And chances are a nice guy to.
And so he comes on line to chat .
He is welcomed in by some hip cat.
The talk is fun he thinks this is great.
But she has not yet put out the bait.
The laughter is flowing he is feeling good.
Friends he's making, he was told he would.
Then a voice in his ear a P.M is what it's called.
How are you honey he hears as she drawled.
Have we met? It's an old line just to start.
Then it don't take long she goes for the heart.
Honey what is it you have got for me?
Been looking for you for a long time you see.
That's when he has met that CYBER- GAL.
The one you have all met she knows just how.
She is willing to show him the way.
Soon he is addicted to cyber play.
She knows how to make you want more.
Beware you are the one she has been waiting for.

Christmas Long Ago
I remember Christmas of long ago
The howling of the wind, and the falling snow
Drifting around the house getting every deep
Children snuggled in their beds to excited to sleep
Dreams of Christmas candy and of sugar plums
And of the morning, dolls, games, and drums
All under the tree so many gifts galore
From old Santa Clause, daddy and many more
Hankies from aunt Martha whistles from Uncle Jack
Mommy made us shirts out of the cotton flour sacks
But that set of Drums old Santa Clause left for Billy
Mommy said that they would be her death really
Then that messy Betsy wetsy doll sister Janie got
Daddy had told mommy he wished she hadn't bought
Even old Rover had a big bone wrapped in red
Dozing in the rocker was poor old grandpa Fred
The cat was playing havoc with the paper around his feet
And when that cat bit his toes made the scene complete
Grandpa screamed kicked out his foot that tree got in the way
That was one we all remembered of our family on Christmas day

My Old Friends of Old
This poem I write to day
With heavy heart I say
True friends should be so caring
What happened to love and sharing
It is not the stranger that hurts me
I know him not his heart I can't see
But where are my friends of old
The ones I thought more of than gold
The ones I knew would never part
Where are you friend heart of my heart
I would not betray you how could you think I would
Time has changed new friends are where I stood
I thought you like my ways I did try to please
But you heard false voices and it was with ease
That you left my side to go away from me
Did you know how much it hurt to let it be
To watch you go one by one out of my life
Friends of old where are you it cuts as a knife
I am here waiting hoping you will change
Stop and say hello do not be so strange
Wanting you to know your worth all the gold
Waiting for your smile my dear friends of old

Forgiveness
Why am I so sensitive? Why do I hurt?
When your words to me seem so curt
Can I forgive you? I know that I should,
Will you do it all over I feel you could?
Is forgiveness lost on one such as you?
You seem to be so cruel in what you do
Why do you lash out is just a bluff
Are you just someone who try's to be tough?
Words said in anger can't be erased
Maybe if you try it can be replaced
Kind and loving words you will remember
All of your anger burns out like an ember
If I forgive you will you do it all again
When you forgive it is ever done in vain
Cursing and lying' you know is a sin
Try a little kindness love your fellow men
I can forgive you because I have been told?
Jesus died for our sins in the days of old
He forgave us how can we not do the same
My friend I forgive you in Jesus name

The Wonders of Life
Watching a bird in the nest up in a tree.
Looking around at all there is to see.
Like a little squirrel scampering around.
Picking up acorns from off the ground.
Storing them away for a cold winter to come.
Looking for more to store, every little crumb.
Or the honeybees flitting here and yonder.
So many are things to make you wonder.
Pollinating flowers for the humming birds.
Butterflies so beautiful beyond words.
Listening to it all you hear music like a fife.
Listening to it all the wonders of life.
See the mommy deer dart across the field.
Two little fawns behind suddenly reveled.
Startled by the stream where they stopped to drink.
By a passing raccoon or the call of a bob-o-link.
Looking in the stream watching the ripples play.
Thanking about that catfish you hooked there one day.
Look up at the hillside covered with yellow blooms.
And out over the edge an old cotton wood tree looms.
Soaring up above an eagle spreads his wings on high.
And swoops to that old branch from out of the sky.
Miracles all around us if we open our eyes to see.
The wonders of life put here for you and me.

Country Door
My Door is always open won't you please come in
Come pull up a chair, and tell me how you been
Tell me about the family hows the little one
Sit back relax a bit soon dinner will be done
While you wait won't you have a sip from my jug
Here comes momma from the kitchen to get her hug
Hair falling across her forehead flour on her face
But looking like and angel with her country grace
She glances out the open door to see who is coming
Then back to her cooking I can hear her humming
What's that aroma coming from the open kitchen door?
If it taste as good as it smells I will have some more
Momma says fried chicken cooked till golden brown
Mashed taters, and tomaters not bought from town
From behind the outhouse a salad of Poke greens
Hot cornbread to go with that pot of navy beans
And don't you know mama has made a chocolate cake
I think that is an apple pie oh wow that woman can bake
The neighbors will be drooling as they pass our open door
Momma's busy sweeping the flour up off the floor
Got all the doors wide open cooling down before we eat
There is momma greeting all saying now you wipe your feet
Our door is always open any time you want to come
You are welcome at are table sit until you succumb

Autumn Nights and Halloween
Now the autumn days are here
Beautiful colors everywhere
Leaves rustling in the trees are seen
Of colors red yellow brown and Green
Nighttime comes and harvest moon
Above the trees we see it loom
Lovers strolling look up in awe
Heavenly vision is what they saw
Now the stars seem so close so near
Clearly seen from are earth here
And as we stroll on this cold night
Our breath we see in the moonlight
Goblins are roaming on this cold night
Children running scream with fright
It's Halloween and ghost go flying by
Witches you see on brooms in the sky
Skeletons rattling bones in the dark
Is it hiding behind that tree in the park?
We see them all as we treat or trick
We feel the tingles from head to feet
Frightened children, but having fun
Running on before this day is done
Of cold autumn nights and Halloween
Of witches goblins, ghost we have seen
And look at the candy filling our bag
Enough to last and for mothers to nag
Its bad for complexion is bad for teeth
But this we remember and it's our belief
Memories are made for years to come
Of autumn nights and Halloween fun

Home is Where the Heart Is
Home is where the heart is, and they say that
But my heart is wherever I hang my hat
It could be in a motel just any day
Or even in a land far across the way
Or on a willow branch as I stop to rest
And watch the baby birds way up in their nest
I am a happy wonderer; I always wear a smile
To make the people happy for just a little while
Come chat with me and I'll pass you my jug
Just tip it o'er your shoulder and have a slug
Come visit in my home a bit and sit for a spell
And we will chat and laugh until your feeling well
It is always nice to visit with good friends
Hang your hat in my home as the day ends
A little chat and cheer is what good friends are for
Knowing that your friendship will last forevermore
And you're always welcome where ever you may roam
So stop and hang your hat in my humble home
You can feel the warmth as friendships grows
Home is where the heart is everybody knows

Grandchild
What a beautiful child, I see her tiny nose
Kicking in the air I see ten tiny toes
Little fist failing wildly in the air
Rosy little cheeks and curly shiny hair
Two bright eyes shining will they turn to blue
Little arms that reach out for you and me
Watch them as they giggle tiny bubbles blow
Soon little feet pitter pat as they grow
Tiny little footsteps trying to keep up
Wrestling on the lawn playing with the pup
Time moves so fast try to hold on tight
Little girls and boys love with all your might
Soon they will be gone only memories remain
But treasure them forever and be glad they came
That tiny little bundle that came from God I am told
It is a grandparent's consolation for having to grow old

Lazy Days
Morning mist drifts across the way
And I awake to a hazy golden day
Sun is rising as I stretch my arms
Yawning I know I am safe from harm
Out my window I hear the birds chirping
The little hummers busily slurping
Sun glints off the bright color feeder
A soft breeze blowing through the cedar
I lay here looking at the world out side
Feeling so lazy taking it all in stride
Watching a squirrel eating on ear of corn
The black bird screeching hear their scorn
A spider spinning a web on the window ledge
I can see him as he spins it out over the edge
The day is coming to life and still I laze in bed
Summer time is here cold days have fled
Lazy days abound warmth and joy are ours
Night with cool breezes sitting under stars
As the years flow by we find many ways
To enjoy our lives, and our lazy days

Life is What You Make it
So what you not a spring Chicken
Ah'theres life to be lived likes the dickens
So your fingers get stiff and other things won't
Things to be done you set and look, but you don't
You huff and you puff and say wait and I'll do tomorrow
But what happens tomorrow much to your sorrow
Its right there waiting while you talk on the phone
When you try to get up old bones creek and you moan
Oh' lord why must we grow old how soon it did fly
Only yesterday we were young, But look don't cry
There may not be a tomorrow, but while there is today
Lets make some new rules try to do what I say
What lies still ahead for you and for me?
Is there for the making, what you want it to be
You may lie on your duff, cry in your beer
Complain to high heaven so all can hear
Or start in today put a smile on your face
Kick up you heels and say I'm going to race
When asked how you are say I'm feeling GRRRREAT
And By golly, sure nuff you will its not to late
Hang tight my friend it's not the end

Nature's Gift
Nature is a gift from God
Rain falling on the plowed sod
Farmers tilling in the field
Praying for a very good yield
Planting wheat, beans, and corn
Overseeing fields they adorn
Tending crops and they know
Sun shining' make them grow
Nature knows what we need
Every year replenishes the seed
Nature' sun and Nature's rain
Hear the sound a study refrain
Making the soil smell so good
Man is proud to know he could
Feed the masses of this world
Nature' helped as it unfurled
Man and nature work together
Nature gives to him the weather
God supplies us what we need
With Nature's help we succeed

Old Winter
Soon the snow will be blowing
Frozen water will stop flowing
Old man winter raising his head
Makes me want to stay in bed
Dream about the warm April rains
And the flowers growing in the lane
Snuggled under blankets warm
Listening to a winter storm
Hear the wind howl under the eve
Waiting for sleep, dreams to weave
Dreaming of days that have long gone by
Remembering loves that have gone awry
Waiting for a new love perhaps in spring
Or what ever life a New Year shall bring
Cold will be gone till winter comes again
Warmth again these old bones will attain

Dew drops in my Garden
Looking in my garden at the dew upon the rose
The fragrance is so lovely as it tickles my nose
Sparkling like diamonds as the sun begins to rise
Across the foliage fluttering are beautiful butterflies
Up on the branches still covered with the dew drop
Pretty little birds chirping way up in the tree top
Look across the garden at the old swinging gate
Hanging like tinkling tinsel the tiny spiders create
In the morning dewdrops glitter like Christmas night
The mist is burning away; see the dragonfly alight
Every thing is peaceful hear the buzz of the bees
ThereÕs a breeze gently rising I hear it in the leaves
On the grass still traces of the shiney wet dew
I know God created early mornings just for you

Gamma's Junk Drawers
Years ago in my kitchen always had a junk drawer.
When the grand kids come to visit they ran to explore.
Gamma put in any thing in that they might enjoy.
Some little toy soldiers and pieces of old tinker toy
A roll of string, a roll of foil, some old broken tools
Things to keep a little boy quiet within the rules
A funny old spoon that isn't used any more.
A jar lid, a set of keys, a knob of a door.
A little old hammer gamma used to use.
The kind of things little boys just can't refuse
A broken rubix cube not used like before.
Odds and ends gamma threw into that drawer
Just for the kids when they come in for a visit.
The little girls looked where gamma would permit.
In the dresser in her bedroom was a magic drawer.
Just that one down on the left the little girls adore.
Causes in that drawer were treasures belonging to a queen.
The sparkling crystal ring, golden beads turning green
A hat with a feather a bracelet with a coil spring.
Covered with diamonds gamma used to wear.
Oh the fun they had dressing up jewels in their hair.
Little Kids playing with each little golden chunk
Memories were built forever of gammas drawer of junk

The Tin Box
In a tin box high on a shelf
Tucked away at some time by my self
Has been there for years papers in side
Are turning yellow from tears that I cried
The birth certificates with tiny foot print
Pieces of hair tied with a rib as curls glint
Five in all three boys, and two girls were born
The papers like new thou corners may be torn
A part of my life a part of the storms that come
When raising a family wondering if youÕll succumb
Looking more I see graduations galore as the grew
Piano recitals and certificates won in that box to view
The past was saved a picture here or there as time allows
I see buried below the paper with the marriage vows
Now very faded but names and dates clear but aged
A promise to love above others a love you assuaged
But sitting atop of that sacred paper is the one that erased
The years you spent as a wife before being replaced
Those are only papers in that tin box, but a life lived with love
For the lady God chose to send those children to from above
